Coronado is a peninsula, a very small island town located across the bay from downtown San Diego, California. It is about 7.4 square miles and is accessed by way of the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge or by ferry boats from downtown San Diego and to the south through Imperial Beach by State Highway 75.
The first Coronado real estate was sold in 1886 as the planning of a hotel and ferry system was being held. The Hotel del Coronado was opened in 1888 and has remained a landmark to this day. Coronado is neighbored by the Naval Amphibious Base, where the SEALS train and North Island Naval Air Station, a port for two aircraft carriers.
